Belagavi: A National Level workshop on “Palliative Care Interventions and Integration” was organized at Bharatesh Homeopathic Medical College and Hospital (BHMCH) on 24th July 2024. This significant event, focusing on care for terminally ill patients, organized in association with the National Association for Palliative Care Integration of Alternative Medicine (NAPCIAM), brought together distinguished delegates, renowned speakers, and key figures in the field of palliative care.
The inaugural session commenced with Mr. K Radhakrishna Menon, the National Vice President of NAPCIAM, warmly welcoming the attendees. The chief guest, Shri Vinod Doddanavar, Secretary of Bharatesh Education Trust, graced the occasion with his insightful remarks. He highlighted the growing necessity of integrating various treatment modalities with modern medicine to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 3, “Good Health and Well-Being.” Shri Doddanavar emphasized the role of palliative care in achieving a disease-free society while focusing on holistic patient well-being.
Dr. Girija Sanikop, President of the NAPCIAM Belagavi Chapter, provided a comprehensive overview of the workshop, detailing its objectives and the importance of integrating palliative care practices across different medical disciplines. The session also witnessed the release of the “Compilation of Reflections, NAPCIAM E-Newsletter” by Shri Vinod R Doddanavar and Dr. Savitri Doddanavar, Chairman of the Governing Council at BHMC. She also delivered the presidential remarks and underscored the critical importance of embedding palliative care within various medical practices to offer a more integrated and patient-centric approach to healthcare. The dignitaries on the dais included Dr. Suhas Kumar Shetty, Principal of KLE Shri B M Kankanawadi Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya & PG Research Centre, and Organizing Chairman of NAPCIAM ICON 2024.
The inaugural session concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Dr. Shrikant Konkani, Principal & Medical Superintendent, BHMCH, who expressed gratitude to all participants, speakers, and organizers for their contributions to the workshop’s success.
The day-long workshop featured three insightful sessions focused on key areas in palliative care:
Session 1: Intervention and Integration in Symptom Management
Session 2: Integration and Intervention in Cerebro Vascular Accidents and Spinal Cord Injury
Session 3: Pain Management and Integration of System
The workshop had 110 participants, including post-graduate students and faculty from BHMC and other institutions. It was coordinated by Dr. Pradeepkumar Patil and Dr. Amey Jathar of BHMCH.
